PowerON Launches Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) Management Services for Zero Emission Fleets

PowerON now provides turnkey CFR credit services from compliance reporting to revenue generation for transit, commercial vehicles and marine vessels.

TORONTO, July 31, 2024 – PowerON Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation (OPG), is pleased to introduce its newest offering: Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) Management Services for zero-emission fleets. This service will assist fleet operators in navigating the complexities of clean fuel regulations to realize a new revenue stream from the charging infrastructure.

PowerON’s CFR Management Services will enable clients to benefit from the economies of scale and credit volumes generated by some of Canada’s largest electric fleets, maximizing credit value, minimizing administrative burden and seamlessly integrating with existing operations.

“We expect our clients to act quickly and start generating credits this year," said Abdullah Rehan, PowerON’s Head of Strategy. “CFR credits offer a surprisingly lucrative new source of revenue to support fleets in managing the transition to electric vehicles. With our turn-key services, clients can confidently navigate the evolving clean fuel landscape, driving positive environmental impact and ensuring maximized return on investment."

We expect our clients to act quickly and start generating credits this year. Estimated revenues include $1,500 to $2,000 for light duty fleet vehicles, and $12,000 to $25,000 for Class 8 vehicles including transit buses.

CFR management services are offered as part of PowerON’s comprehensive turn-key solutions or as a standalone service for new clients managing their own charging stations and seeking to benefit from a new revenue stream. Estimated revenues include $1,500 to $2,000 for light duty fleet vehicles, and $12,000 to $25,000 for Class 8 vehicles including transit buses.

Canada’s CFR is a federal market-based program that aims to achieve a 15% reduction (up to 26.6 million tCO2e) in emission intensity of fossil fuels compared to 2016 levels. These regulations apply to producers, importers, distributors, and suppliers bringing gasoline and diesel fuels for transportation to the Canadian market. The program also provides a significant incentive for adopting and operating clean fleets by establishing a credit market through which fuel suppliers can meet their carbon intensity reduction targets by purchasing credits generated by the fueling of zero emission fleets including electric and hydrogen buses, trucks and other equipment.
